The inside of the Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse in Downtown Long Beach, Calif., on August 27, 2013. The courthouse is scheduled to open on September 9, 2013. The building is replaces, The Long Beach County Building, is the more than 50-years old and considered by the state to be one of the worst courthouses in California in terms of security, overcrowding and physical condition. The building will house 31 civil and criminal courtrooms and occupy roughly 80 percent of the overall 531,000 square feet. See more pictures>>

Most Long Beach and Lakewood kids are still on Summer break, but Wednesday, at one of the only schools in Long Beach that’s not in LBUSD, youngsters returned to classes.
